Monthly Round-up – Jan 2016

The first month of the year saw plenty of announcements. Stained crimson Dubrovnik chess set version 2.0 undoubtedly takes the cake last month. Stained crimson Dubrovnik chess set is a spectacular chess set, mainly for it’s excellent value. First and foremost on the list is Dubrovnik version 2.0 chess set. The Dubrovnik chess set celebrates a love story of aesthetics and a unique premium color; stained crimson. Designing this chess set with stained crimson has been attempted – but never before mastered like this. Some customer’s felt that the knight in our previous repro was not an accurate reproduction, so we heard to our customer’s opinion and respected their verdict by bringing a closest possible knight in our version 2.0. The stained crimson Dubrovnik chess set is simply gorgeous, and exquisitely striking, therefore each piece is carved with meticulous care. It’s a chess set that is truly like no other. Cultivating a new level of craftsmanship and artisanal luxury in our limited edition chess set, we have also launched our most elegant limited edition Dubrovnik yet. The new stained crimson color is subject to only the most rigorous quality inspections, ensuring that if you’re holding any crimson piece in your hands, it is completely free from red color discoloration. Unfortunately only 10 chess sets of this limited edition version have been produced. And as long as we are on the subject of reproduced antique chess sets, the Reproduced 1849 Staunton Chess Set Version 2.0 is the one that deserves some attention. This is a new chess set that has been developed under the concept of a “Graded Up 1849 Chess Set” while maintaining the nostalgic historic feeling and unmatched craftsmanship of the existing 1849 chess set. Our revised reproduction has refined knight, non antiqued box wood and does not come with king side stamping. The chess pieces are made in box wood and ebony wood. The king is 4.4″ high. The chess set comes with 34 pieces including 2 extra queens. This set is Triple Weighted and the chess pieces have thick green felt on their bases.

Our new minimalist series chess boards are also generating a lot of hype around the chess world. Max Ernst designed and presented this chess set to famous chess player Marcel Duchamp. Duchamp & Max Ernst are considered by many critics to be one of the most important artists of the 20th century.

It comes as no surprise that the Blackburne chess set is still on everybody’s mind but the best is yet to come. Yes you heard it right, the biggest flagship of 2016 train is on track and will be available soon on our website. However, you have to wait patiently for the event to find out the whole story.

California Chrome Series made the headlines as well, California chrome chess set brings new styling to our current luxury line-up, thanks to it’s sharp edgy design. It comes with a 4.1″ King & hand carved in bud rose/ebony & box wood.

The knight in this chess set is dedicated to California Chrome, the American Horse of the year 2014. California Chrome is an American thoroughbred racehorse which won the 2014 Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes.

Abaco Barb Staunton Series is coming next week in bud rose wood & box wood with the king height of 4.4” and a base diameter of 1.9”. All chess pieces are triple weighted by adding a stud of iron within the base. Each of the chess piece has thick green felt on it’s base. The dark chess pieces are made of Bud rose wood and the lighter chess pieces are made of Box wood.

And as for the 1851 reproduction which chess collectors are eagerly waiting for is coming this fall along with a previous version of the 1849 Staunton pattern chess set. These are the two reproductions which every chess collector will look out for. Please also note that we are going to launch a dozen of new chess sets before Christmas. Let’s see what the gossip is all about. First and foremost, perhaps, is the Blackburne edition chess set with its huge 4.6″ king. This chess set comes with a 4.6″ King with base diameter of 1.92″. Triple weighted chess set has the chess pieces fitted with thick green felts on their bases. The dark chess pieces are made in ebony, bud rose wood and the lighter chess pieces are made in box wood. Each piece in the set has been meticulously carved, sanded, finished and buff polished by hand to give it a rich long lasting shine. Furthermore, it comes with free chess set storage box (S1210) along with free shipping. This box is best suited for this luxury chess set. It comes with suit case style handle to carry and is also fitted with a lock for safe upkeep.

Monthly Round-up – June 2015

Another month just flew by and things were quite busy with the most-exciting announcements in the past few weeks. If you think you might have missed something from the busy month, here is a list of what you!

We saw quite few announcements last month, but the 18 BC – AD 19 Minimalist Hermann Ohme chess set in dyed boxwood which was definitely the most exciting one. We have announced the Hermann Ohme chess set in dyed box wood. This new version comes with quite a few improvements in quality over the sheesham version, however the design and price of this chess set remains unchanged.

Few other announcements from last month are also definitely worth noting, like the 1929 Barcelona “Joc Catalan” Chess Set, which is now available in ebony & box wood. This beautiful “Joc Catalan chess set” was designed by the famous architect Antonio Gaudi in the 1930s and he introduced it at the Barcelona International Chess Tournament in 1930. This chess set was named as Catalan Set.

Unfortunately 5 years thereafter, the civil war cut short all Catalan cultural movements, activities and crafts, including Art Nouveau. It is unknown as to how many chess sets were originally made but as close to nothing of those sets exist now, it is believed that perhaps this number was not huge. We at chessbazaar have done our best to reproduce the Catalan Chess Set as per the specifications, design and size of the original chess set.

We have released a new chess set as part of the budget-friendly Staunton series. This chess set is quite reasonably priced and comes with double weighted ebony / box wood chess pieces with the king height of 4″.

An interesting fact is that the knight of this chess set looks like an empire series chess set knight.

We are already working on the stained crimson Dubrovnik chess set and are trying to find the respective solution for color bleed issue, but the practical implications are still quite questionable. You may expect stained crimson Dubrovnik chess set sale in mid Aug 2015.

Father’s Day, Father’s Day everywhere! Last month we have celebrated father’s Day with the grand dad of all chess sets, yes you heard it right 1849 Staunton pattern chess set is currently in stock & up for sale.
