Features: This imposing chess set "The Admiral Series" in Staunton pattern, is made up of ebony wood and boxwood. The King proudly stands at 4.48 inches and its base is robust 1.88 inches. This is a version 2.0 featuring the magnificent and all new robust knights.
Dark chess pieces are made up of ebony wood. It would be difficult to find a more sumptuous wood than ebony wood for the dark side chess pieces, deep luster and total blackness of the ebony wood is exceptional. The texture of the ebony wood is fine and a true pleasure to hold.
The opposing pieces are made up of boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and triple weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. King, Queens, Bishops, Rooks and Pawns have unique collar rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelops the base for smooth movement on the chess board. The knights are well-crafted and represent the highest grade of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer.
Weight: 2370 grams approx. (83.59 oz). Please note that the weight in the set is added manually so the final weight of the set can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%.
Craftsmanship: The carving of the knight is quite spectacular, look closely at the eyes, nostrils, teeth and, details around the mane. The design of the other pieces is also highly commended to allow the set to truly stand out. They are meticulously handcrafted from the finest grade ebony and polished by hand to give it a rich and long lasting shine. Each chessmen is carefully hand crafted in India with dainty details. Superb size proportioning from king to the pawn exhibits true intricate craftsmanship in all the pieces. The design, quality, and craftsmanship of these chess pieces is comparable to the luxury chess sets that are sold for $1000+ by other retailers.
Design Inspiration: War Admiral was an American thoroughbred racehorse, also known as the fourth winner of the American Triple Crown. He also won the title "Horse of the Year" in 1937. War Admiral was elected to the Hall of Fame in the same year as arch-rival Seabiscuit and ranked #13 in The Blood-Horse ranking of the top 100 US thoroughbred champions. Inspired by the famous horse War Admiral, our Admiral II Series personifies the legacy of the War Admiral. The lifelike details at the mane and a distinctive head shape of the knight represent the War Admiral horse in full gallop.
Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.
