Beautiful Chess Set, Unfortunately Not 100% Historically Accurate

I purchased one of these sets from the previous series. The shipping time was excellent as was the wrapping and packing which was bomb proof.
My only disappointment in the earlier series is that some of the pieces were not historically accurate. The Rook did not have sloped sides and it only had 4 cuts in the turret not 5. The Knight is excellent. There are a few minor differences in some of the other pieces that are not technically accurate. Again I believe these have since been improved.
All in all I received a beautiful chess set and I am very happy. The new series is a further improvement.Posted on

This is a beautiful board but it arrived with some slight imperfections that might be considered major to some. But these issues I feel could have easily been avoided and should have been noticed by quality control. I did get a substantial discount due to international chess day sale on top of already discounted price which made the purchase still very worthwhile.
Problem #1- 3 white squares have red stain on top of them from border I assume.
Problem #2-the border wood stain is obviously lighter in places and not as even as it should have been.
Problem #3- The grooves are missing some stain altogether or the surface color was scratched off somehow. Hard to tell which it is.
Problem #4- In the right light you will notice scratch marks all over the border that I assume is from buffing??? Not sure but they are there.
I did not notice any of these problems at first inspection. It was only when I got closer to play a game on it that all these really became noticeable to me.
My phone camera was not able to really pick up the red stain on the white squares but it is very noticeable to the naked eye when playing- not so much from say 3 or more feet away.
Board arrived quickly to Midwest USA from India. Very well packaged. Very well made. Just the slight cosmetic flaws that are irksome. Would still purchase it. It is that nice of a board and why I did not give it 2 or 3 stars for flaws.Posted on

This is my first order from Chessbazaar for almost 3 years (after 20+ sets between 2018 and 2021), and I'm no longer collecting chess sets. But when I saw that they now make a larger version of the Dubrovnik 3.0 set, I know I wanted one. With a 40% store discount the price came to just $250 including import tax (pre-applied, which simplified the import enormously) - great value. The craftsmanship is excellent, practically flawless. Beautiful carvings for this Russian style set. A pleasure to look at and play with. Perfect size for travel / analyis. Good value.
My only disappointment is with the quoted weight on Chessbazaar's sets. Almost every set I have ever purchased is 10-15% BELOW the weight stated in the description. Come on Chessbazaar - be more realistic with the weights - don't say +/- 10% when it is almost always 10-15% lower. Weight is an important factor in the purchase decision for many buyers.Posted on
