Boxwood is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. Pieces have unique rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelops the base of each chessmen for smooth movement on the chess board. The Knights are well-reproduced and represent the highest grade of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer. Reproduced 1940 Soviet Club Chess Set is simply gorgeous and exquisitely striking in white color, therefore each piece is carved with meticulous care. Our most magnificent chess set yet takes nearly a week to create. It’s a chess set that is truly like no other. 

Craftsmanship: The lathe work on each chess piece is noteworthy, especially the unique collar rings and elegant curves on the knights. We then polished them in high gloss lacquer which gives the chess pieces a smooth shiny surface. The set is entirely handmade in India and weighted for prodigious hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. All chess pieces have a wide base which adds another interesting dimension to the set. 

History: This marvelous chess set made in USSR was never used in any tournament, never reproduced. Some chess collectors even believe that this set was used for photos only in Moscow Club, at best in 1940 USSR Championship.
