Reproduced 1951-1954 "Ceske Klubovsky" FIDE Tournament Czech Reproduction Chessmens' dark pieces are made of genuine ebony wood and the light pieces are made of Boxwood. The King proudly stands at 4" tall with a base diameter of 1.69". This chessmen is being carved by our master craftsmen after evaluating various design details through the photographs only. It took months to finally came up with the production version. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. Pieces have unique rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelops the base of each chessmen for smooth movement on the chess board. The Knights are well-reproduced and represent the highest grade of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer.

Max Euwe with Czech setHistory: The father of Czech Chessmen was Bohuslav Schnirch, one of the best sculptors of his time, designed the first Czech Chessmen called "Ceske Klubovsky" or Česká klubovka in Czech around 1880. Schnirch was also the first chairman of the Czech Chess Union founded in 1888. There are many variations of Schnirch's "Ceske Klubovsky" produced over the last 140 years. ChessBazaar is happy to offer a reproduction of the "Ceske Klubovsky" set that was used between 1951 and 1954 in FIDE tournaments. There are photos of chess greats Alehkine, Flohr and Euwe with different versions of the Czech set. The unique feature which distinguishes Czech sets from typical Staunton sets is the shape of their King and Queen crowns.
Mike Ladzinski

Craftsmanship:
The chessmen's carving and turning is quite tricky. Our design and carver team spent endless hours to reach the details of all the pieces without compromising with the quality and feel of the set. The King's top and bishops mitre have some hand carving which also makes these chessmen unique. The reversible queen's crown is also unique and was mostly seen in Soviet era chess sets. Knights have a divergent style of carving on each side making even more captivating pieces from different angle views. The lathe work on each chess piece is noteworthy, especially the unique collar rings and elegant curves. The rooks shank has a brick architecture. The pawns have a wide base which adds another interesting dimension to the set. The design of the other pieces is also highly commended, which allows the set to truly stand out. They are meticulously handcrafted from the finest grade wood and polished by hand to give it a rich and long-lasting shine. Each chessmen is carefully handcrafted in India with dainty details and the design, quality, and craftsmanship of these chess pieces is comparable to the original chess sets that are rare to find.

Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.

Felts: Thick green felt precisely envelops the base of each chessmen.

Weights: The set is double weighted and so they are a pleasure to hold and will last for years if maintained properly in a dry and clean place.

Package Includes: 34 Chessmen(2 extra queens included), Chessboard NOT included in this sale.

Disclaimer: This chess set is reproduced in collaboration with "Michael Ladzinski", one of the greatest chess collectors in the chess world. Product color may slightly vary due to photographic lighting sources or your monitor settings.

Caution: These chess pieces are neither waterproof nor UV-resistant
