The Candidates Series Staunton Chess Pieces in Ebony / Box Wood - 3.75" King

We are pleased to announce the Candidates Tournament Series Staunton chess set exquisitely made from ebony and natural boxwood. The set features a Tournament standard 3.75" King with a base diameter of 1.61 inches. This is a captivated design featuring the magnificently robust and remarkable knight. 

The dark chess pieces are made of ebony wood. It would be difficult to find a more sumptuous wood than ebony wood for the dark side chess pieces. The texture of the ebony wood is fine and a true pleasure to hold. The deep luster and total blackness of the ebony wood are exceptional.

Weight: 1696 grams approx. (59.82 oz). Please note that the weight in the set is added manually so the final weight of the set can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%.

The opposing pieces are made of boxwood which is traditionally used for the white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. All Pieces are uniquely designed and have thick green felts, which precisely envelops the base of each chessmen for smooth movement on the chess board.

Craftsmanship: The carving and the design of the knight are quite spectacular, look closely at the eyes, nostrils, pinned ears, and craftsmanship around the mane. The design of the other pieces is also highly outstanding. They are meticulously handcrafted from the finest grade ebony wood and polished by hand to give it a rich and long-lasting shine. Superb size proportioning from king to the pawn exhibits true intricate craftsmanship in all the pieces.

Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.
