The Sher-E-Punjab Series Pieces in Ebony / BoxWood - 4.6" King with Box

This dazzling chess set "The Sher-E-Punjab Series" in Staunton pattern, is made up of ebony wood and boxwood. The King proudly stands at 4.6 inches and its base is robust 1.9 inches. The dark chess pieces are made of ebony wood. It would be difficult to find a more sumptuous wood than ebony wood for the dark side chess pieces. The texture of the ebony wood is fine and a true pleasure to hold. The deep luster and total blackness of the ebony wood is exceptional.

The opposing pieces are made of boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and double weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. Chess pieces have unique collar rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelops the base of each chessmen for smooth movement on the chess board. The knights are well-crafted and represent the highest grade of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer.

Pieces Weight : 1750 grams (61.72 oz). Please note that the weight in the set is added manually so the final weight of the set can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%.

Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.

Design Inspiration: The Sher-E-Punjab series is manufactured in Amritsar, India. Inspired from the famous Maharaja Ranjit Singh, Maharaja of the Punjab, our Sher-E-Punjab Series personifies the legacy of the famous Maharaja Ranjit Singh. The sweeping mane, a distinctive head shape and a bold design of the knight represent the "Lion of Punjab". Maharaja Ranjit Singh was the founder of the Sikh Empire, which came to power in the Indian subcontinent in the early half of the 19th century. The empire, based in the Punjab region, existed from 1799 to 1849. It was forged, on the foundations of the Dal Khalsa, under the leadership of Ranjit Singh from a collection of autonomous Sikh Misls. The Golden Temple in Amritsar was completely renovated by Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
