The dark chess pieces are made of genuine ebony wood. The opposing pieces are made of Ivory White which is traditionally used for white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. This marvelous chess set made in USSR was never used in any tournament, never reproduced. June of 2017 is now behind us and it brought some interesting chess sets.
