Pegasus Series Weighted Chess Pieces
Features: The Pegasus Series weighted chess pieces offer a 4.6" King with a base diameter of 1.8" and all chess pieces are Triple Weighted. Each piece has thick green felt on the base. The dark pieces are made of bud rosewood (Padauk) and the lighter pieces are made of boxwood. The set includes a complete set of 34 pieces with extra queens.
Why Pegasus Series?
Pegasus, an immortal winged divine stallion, is one of the best-known creatures in Greek mythology. Winged horses like Pegasus have been used to symbolize freedom, power, and victory in many cultures. Pegasus is said to have sprung from the head of Medusa, a mythical Gorgon sister with hair of snakes and a stare that could turn a man to stone.
According to legend, everywhere the winged horse struck his hoof to the earth, an inspiring spring burst forth.
Our Pegasus knights in this set are inspired by the same Greek stallion. The mane of the knight depicts the folded wings of Pegasus. The flared nostrils of the knight represent Pegasus landing after a long flight.
Craftsmanship:
The lathe work on each chess piece is noteworthy, especially the curly rounded hairs of the knight. Look closely at the eyes, nostrils, teeth, and mane to appreciate the level of detail. Each chessman is handcrafted in India from the finest grade ebony wood and polished by hand for a rich, long-lasting shine.
Superb size proportioning from king to pawn showcases true intricate craftsmanship throughout. The design, quality, and craftsmanship of these chess pieces are comparable to luxury chess sets sold for $900+ by other retailers.
