This is a beautiful and detailed set. I purchased it in 2019 and it's absolutely gorgeous. I was just looking at one of the ebony boards to go with it and came to check on the recommended square size and thought I'd take a moment to review. \n\nIf you're used to ebonized boxwood, let me tell your how much nicer real ebony is. With my set, there is a depth to the wood and you can look into the pieces and see golden toned wood graining. They are just beautiful. These are substantial pieces, with a good weight in the hand. And it really is nice to have pawns that are different from the typical pawn design that barely seems to vary in other sets. The conical finials on the pawns resemble spiked infantry helmets from the middle ages. The details design of the rest of the set is also worth of admiration. I am so glad I bought this set. It is the pride of my collection.

This is truly an exceptional set of chessmen and I ordered them with the glossy finish to really obtain that ""Wow"" factor when coupled with a glossy Rechapados Ferrer 60mm squares board! Exquisite!\n \nJust for interest's sake, these chessmen are identical to a set of pieces named ""Cyrus Staunton"" with the exception of the pawns. The Ferocious Elite's pawn crowns have more pronounced points which makes them both taller and more streamlined - definitely a plus. I think I'll refer to this set as my ""Cyrus Staunton"" pieces, though, as it really does have a Persian ""feel"" to it and Cyrus the Great was a brilliant strategist. Perhaps his talents will manifest themselves whenever these pieces are put to use!

A very attractive chess set. I got it mostly due to its uniqueness with the prickly pawns and excellently sculpted pieces. The knights are especially attractive and stand out. All pieces were well carved and uniformly crafted except perhaps the very tops of a couple of the pawns differed very slightly at their peaks. One rook had a small chip at the corner of one of the turrets but it was on the inside and not noticeable. The ebony was generally of a high quality with only some very slight, almost imperceptible brown streaking on a couple pieces. I have gotten other ebony pieces from others at twice the price with much more perceptible brown streaks. Overall, it was very skillfully made for a hand carved product and I am very happy with this set for the price. Very, very close to perfection.

I had been looking at this set for a while on various sites. This set is listed as high as $595.00 (USD). When it went on sale (under $200), I didn't hesitate, though I was skeptical of what the quality would be, given a $400 price difference. My expectations and any doubts, were blown away when I unboxed this set! \n\nFirst the shipping- ordered 6.8.19 and arrived on 6.11.19. That's impressive for shipping from the other side of the world. The set was well packed. Each piece individually wrapped in foam and sent in a foam lined box, with none of the pieces moving around within the box.\n\nSecond the set- this set is substantial in size, weight and appearance! Beautifully carved. Each piece is unique, and while the knight is certainly eye catching, the other pieces carry their own interest as well. From the pointed, aggressive looking pawns, to the spikey bishop, which is nearly the height of the queen. This is an awesome, high quality, and unique set!\n\n

This really is an exceptional set. The design, the weight and the ebony and boxwood pieces make it truly striking. It is really fun to play a game with this set, even if you lose. In addition Chess Bazaar's customer service is second to none, anywhere. I could not be happier.

This set is stunning! Each piece has a unique feel to it from the prickly pawns to the pillbox king. The pieces look like they have donned armor and are ready for battle! The heftiness of the pieces and the wide base make this set extremely pleasant to play with. I have the Dragon Knight and Pegasus set and this set is a welcome addition to the collection. I highly and enthusiastically recommend this chess set!

As the name implies, this set has big attitude and packs a mean punch. The prickly pawns mean business during battle. Do not mess with them or you'll pay the price! This set is definitely not for those faint in heart. The quality of the woods, the detailed craftmanship and uniqueness of design appear to be one of the finest efforts in production by ChessBazaar. I just had to add this to my collection. You really get a lot for your money here. In my opinion, a must have for any serious collector.
