chessbazaar® is proud to introduce "B & Co 1860s Antique Chess Set". This chess set features chessmen that are crafted with a combination of ebony wood and antiqued boxwood. The King proudly stands at 3.93 inches and its base is a robust 1.8 inches. The dark chess pieces are made of ebony wood. It would be difficult to find a more sumptuous wood than ebony wood for the dark side chess pieces. The texture of the ebony wood is fine and a true pleasure to hold. The deep luster and total blackness of the ebony wood are exceptional. They are meticulously handcrafted from the finest grade genuine ebony wood and polished by hand to give it a rich and long-lasting shine.

Chess Pieces Weight: 1540 grams approx (54.32 oz). Please note that the weight in the set is added manually so the final weight of the set can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%.

The opposing pieces are made of boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden

chess board. Pieces have unique rings and thick green felts, which precisely envelops the base of each chessmen for smooth movement on the chess board. The Knights are well-reproduced and represent the highest grade of knight carving skills that our Indian artisans have to offer.

Craftsmanship: This fascinating chess set was produced by B & Company in the 1860s. The lathe work on each chess piece is noteworthy, especially the marvellous miter cut on the bishops. All chess pieces have a wide base which adds another interesting dimension to the set. The carving and turning the quality of the knight are quite spectacular. Knights have a divergent style of carving on each side making even more captivating pieces from different angle views. The design of the other pieces is also highly outstanding that allows the set to truly stand out.

Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.

New Antique Finish Process: The new antique finish is accomplished through an innovative four-step process of color and rotational 3-D polishing for a uniform finish. This new antique finish even prevents pieces from cracks and splits.

Design & Quality: The pieces are handcrafted with wide bases which don't tumble easily. The rooks are turned to look solid castles, the pawns are minimalist just like the Jacques style, the bishops have a unique cut, the king is distinguished without a cross finial. The design, quality, and craftsmanship of these chess pieces are unmatched and that is what made them favorite of the masses. The result of this hard work of these master craftsmen is a truly wonderful design and a masterpiece which any connoisseur will admire. How are items packaged?

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.

Seller Error: If we made a mistake, such as sending the wrong or incomplete item, please let us know right away and we will gladly send the correct item in exchange whenever possible at no additional cost to you.(Wrong or incomplete items claim must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.)
Defective items: If you receive an item with a manufacturer's defect, please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order to arrange for a replacement.
