Now, we present the Reproduced 1849 Staunton Chess Set in ivory white & painted crimson. Handcrafted from boxwood, polished with high-gloss lacquer, and heavily weighted (1750g ±10%), this set offers a premium playing experience. The King stands at 4.3" with a 1.7" base, and the set includes extra queens. The knights showcase elite carving skills, while thick green felts ensure smooth movement.

The King-side stamping adds authenticity, and the metal-guided profiles ensure uniformity in turned pieces. This masterpiece is crafted in India by skilled artisans, staying true to the original Staunton design while remaining affordable.

A Absolutely Beautiful Set in Crimson and White

The crimson and bright white colors makes this set stand out along with the great carving quality. Every piece is just beatiful and the solid rooks and bishops with the wider mitres stand out the most in this set. The queen and the pawns could be slightly taller but I guess at that time period they were a little shorter than in the more modern Staunton pattern sets. The set is worth every penny and we use it often to play on our ebony 60mm square board which makes a great contrast to those bright colored pieces.

Beautiful Set & a Work of art. My hat of to the craftsmen that made this happen. Would like to see this same set in a smaller (tournament) size.

Consistent finish, good weight.

Solid set. Having never seen an actual 1849 Staunton set, I cannot attest to its accuracy in that regard. But what I can say is that this set is well made and consistent piece to piece. The pawns are smaller compared to the other pieces in relationship to the major and minor piece of other sets I have, but that is by design. The red white color combination looks incredibly sharp on a green/buff board. Even though it's a club sized set, it doesn't look overcrowded on a 2.25inch square board. Would recommend.

Beautiful pieces.

The pieces are great. However, I also purchased the form-fitted padded carrying case and it is too big for these pieces (or just badly made) The pieces fall out of their places and rattle around inside. In other words, the case offers no protection from scratching. Let me remind you again--the pieces are very nice and worth the money (as are all of the sets I've purchased from Chess Bazaar over the years. It's just that this time the case was a bust.

A matchless reproduction of a myth by today's standards

I simply couldn't believe what my eyes where seeing as I was unwrapping the pieces of my just received Reproduced 1849 Original Staunton Pattern Chess Set ivory white and crimson lacquered. I've never seen such a close reproduction of 1849 Jaques Staunton by any of nowadays (and perhaps not even past) crafting chess industry. But what I find outstanding is the perfection of the work done: no flaws whatsoever. Plus the choice of the colours is consistent with that of the old times when white and red stained ivory was used in top end sets. And of course, the touchstone of a chess set, the knight, has every due carving feature. And great price for what you get.

Amazing 1849 reproduction indeed indeed a grand piece of Art. Chess Bazaar once again intrique my heart felt when I recieved the set today at my door step I fully blown away when I open up the parcel to unvail the contents in the box. Truly caught by surprise that I can hardly imagine such an accurate exact reproduction they have made. I added another beautiful holy grail to my collection. How are items packaged?

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.

Seller Error: If we made a mistake, such as sending the wrong or incomplete item, please let us know right away and we will gladly send the correct item in exchange whenever possible at no additional cost to you.(Wrong or incomplete items claim must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.)
Defective items: If you receive an item with a manufacturer's defect, please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order to arrange for a replacement.
