This peerless Reproduced Fide Approved 90s French Chavet Tournament Chess Set in Staunton style is made up of bud rosewood and boxwood(also available in Sheesham wood & Ebonized Variant). This chess set has been specifically designed for the tournaments or serious chess players.

The King stands at 3.66" with a 1.57" base. Featuring a one-piece knight with detailed carving, the set showcases intricate craftsmanship. Dark pieces are made from rare bud rosewood, carved in India, weighted for a premium feel and sound.

Weight: 1250 grams (44.09 oz). Please note that the weight in the set is added manually so the final weight of the set can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%.

The white pieces are made of boxwood, known for its detail and ease of carving. The set includes extra queens and thick green felt for smooth movement. The knights showcase exceptional craftsmanship by Indian artisans.

History: This fascinating French chess set was designed by the famous French

Maker called Chavet Used in the 1990 World Chess Championship (Lyon), this early 90s Staunton design remains one of the best ever created.

Craftsmanship: What makes this chess set so unique is its knight as it is made from a single piece of wood, there are no joins. Each chessmen is carefully handcrafted in India and takes some influences from our German Knight Tournament Series. The carving and turning the quality of the knight is quite spectacular. The lathe work on each chess piece is noteworthy, especially the unique collar rings and elegant curves.The rook features 4 turret cuts, and the pawns have a wide base. Handcrafted from the finest wood in India, each piece is meticulously polished for lasting shine. The design and craftsmanship rival $500+ sets.

Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.

Was a bit nervous to order the pieces however excellent quality and they are the pieces that I have been after since 1995. \nExcellent thank you.

Gorgeous Pieces

I had search far and wide for an original Henri Chavet chess set that was made in the mid to late 80's to early 90's but was always disappointed not to find the #6 version and if there was any available it was priced at an astronomical asking price. Untouchable according to my own wallet. I had seen this Chavet set last year and asked Chess Bazaar if they could thin out the knight's profile, a ""tetes fines"" (french description profile term) and they had replied that most collectors liked their version until Stephen Kong A.K.A. Chess Praxis gave his contribution in making V2.0 . I guess my input was overlooked but that's neither here nor there. What is most important is the quality of the outcome in the revision of the knights. I like this version a bit better than the original for the ""heft"" of the pieces. Although the knights are a much-welcomed improvement I would've like to see the neckline from the base to just under the muzzle a little thinner. I'm really not complaining here this set and the wood I chose is drop dead gorgeous especially with the lacquered overcoat to protect it for years to come. One of the knights had an imperfection but this will be quickly remedied by Mayank and her design team when they complete another order I have in queue. Thank you, Vikramjit Singh and your design team for working with me on my special order requests and the replacement request as well. This is definitely a keeper and will not be sold at any cost only handed down when I leave this earth to family members. Keep ups the good works CB and thank you once again.

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.

Seller Error: If we made a mistake, such as sending the wrong or incomplete item, please let us know right away and we will gladly send the correct item in exchange whenever possible at no additional cost to you.(Wrong or incomplete items claim must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.)
