Reproduced Antique Series Austrian Coffee House Old Vienna chess pieces are made up of ebonized and natural boxwood. The King proudly stands at 4.2 inches and its base is robust 1.6 inches. The dark chess pieces are made of stained ebonized and the opposing pieces are made up of boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for fantastic hand-feel. Chess pieces have thick green felts which precisely envelops the base of each chessmen for smooth movement on the chess board. Chess pieces are meticulously hand crafted from the finest grade wood and polished by hand to give it a rich and long lasting shine.

This is my second set

This is my second set from ChessBazaarIndia. As before the set is above expectations. I wanted a larger set and the Austrian Coffee House reproduction is it. The king at 4.2 inches is formidable and of good weight. The feel and the finish are perfect. I will definitely be following this store for additional sets. Note: One of the knights arrived broken. I contacted the seller who immediately agreed to send a new one and shipped it the next day. Great customer service. I can’t wait for it to arrive. There will be many games played with this set!

Interesting historical reproduction

This is a very interesting and attractive looking set that I got mostly for its uniqueness. Carving was perfect, though one of the large opposite colored ball finials on one of the bishops seemed to sit slightly crooked - the only reason I gave 4 stars for quality rather than 5.

Great set!

I got this set in clearance sale, it's great! I was searching for a coffee house set for a while, this one worth it! The kings have slightly bigger bases (43mm instead of 41mm). As usual it was shipped just in a few days here in France!

Amazingly good set

As an owner of several antique Vienna Coffee sets I wanted to add this set to my collection. The price was IMO very good and I've received the pieces only a few days later (in Europe). The weighted pieces (in my case buff posish) have a very good look and feel and are also very authentic. I did have some small damage on one piece and even this one has been replaced within a short time via a very supportive customer service. It would be interesting how the lacquer ones look like but this is maybe a later order. To summarize: Perfect service, perfect pieces, very good price make one happy customer.

Nice chess pieces

The original Old Austrian/Coffee House style chess pieces have not been made in 60+ years, and even if you can find one, it is very expensive. However, we are fortunate enough to have Chessbazaar to make a replica of this style. There were many different variations of this design and this reproduction picks up these features; the only difference being that these pieces are weighted. I had two pieces that were damaged in shipping, the white king was broken in half and a black pawn had a chunk missing. I notified Chessbazaar (with photos) and had replacements on the way within 24 hours. The replacement pieces arrived in less than two weeks. It is a nice set to play and there is nice detail on the pieces. I am satisfied with my purchase.

Great reproduction

This is a great reproduction of the Austrian Coffee House style.The pieces are nicely turned and are decently weighted. Several pieces needed replaced: one black rook had a piece of the top crenellation broken off; the black king was substandard and one black queen had a bent point at the top of it's crown. Thanks to Sapna for quickly responding to my concerns and shipping out replacements. All in all a very nice set.

High art

An original and very intelligent size 7 remake of a classic, historical Vienna design. All the pieces are cool; in particular, the queens look very refined and the rooks are to die for.

This is a wonderful set, mainly for display; although it is nice to go over some Schlechter games with it.

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.
