Features: Reproduced Antique Series weighted chess pieces offers a 4.3" King with a diameter of 1.5" and all chess pieces are Double Weighted by adding a stud of iron within the base. Each of the chess pieces have thick green felt on their bases. The dark chess pieces are made of Ebony wood and the lighter chess pieces are made of Boxwood.

Design & Build Quality :- All of the chess pieces bases have hand-selected thick green felt that feels luxurious & also provides for better stability. The thick green felt precisely envelops the base of each chessmen. The thick green felt also helps to protect the finish & surface of the chess board from scratches, which is why we crafted it as passionately as we did. The chess pieces are beautifully crafted in Ebony wood & boxwood. Ebony wood will give you luxurious touch & premium feel in your hand. We use high quality Buff polish on each of our chess pieces.

A classic

This set is a beautiful and modern creation based on the classical French design known as the Café de la Régence style.
Today, with players accustomed to 2D boards and to analyzing blindfold, not to mention FIDE's own tampering with time honored Staunton style criteria, it is legitimate to reconsider what is, de facto, our less than uniform standard for our playing equipment.
The genius endorsement by Staunton (probably a historical first for gaming equipment) of the Nathaniel Cooke design has devolved into a multitude of "Staunton" inspired sets that range from the multiple successive designs by the original Jaques company itself to the versions of the Pentagram design sold by the FIDE World Chess Shop, not to mention the nearly infinite number of bastard designs in many countries over nearly two centuries. All this, simply, to say that talking of a Staunton set does not mean much anymore.
In contrast, a return to the purity of the classical French design, devoid of religious/cultural references, would be welcome.
Thanks to Chess Bazaar for this beautiful creation finely made from traditional boxwood and their service to the future of chess.

Oustanding and exquisite design

This is a beautiful set, the quality of craftsmanship outstanding. I played with a smaller set about 68 years ago at my aunt's place in Utrecht, The Netherlands, so it brings back memories. I loved the design then and love it even more now. Can't wait to challenge a worthy opponent for a game using this superb set.

Beautiful Regency Chess Set

I bought two of these remarkable sets. This is a wonderful interpretation of the 19th century French Regency style which was very widespread at the time. I am very surprised that I am the first to offer a review. I learned chess from my father at 9 years of age on a small Regency set (which I still have 50 years after) and this Chessbazaar set therefore has a special emotional resonance for me. But on its own esthetic terms this set is spectacular. I love the knights on their pedestals and the sloping rooks are my favorites of any chess set. \nI don't understand why more chess players are not drawn to this very dignified design. It is French, after all. Was this an Anglo-German bias of some kind? Who can say ?\nAlso, the current price is an incredible bargain. \nFinally, one of the pawns had a flaw in the finish and Chessbazaar very promptly sent me a replacement by India Post. I was very impressed with their customer service ! Thank you, Sapna !!

How are items packaged?

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.

Seller Error: If we made a mistake, such as sending the wrong or incomplete item, please let us know right away and we will gladly send the correct item in exchange whenever possible at no additional cost to you.(Wrong or incomplete items claim must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.)
Defective items: If you receive an item with a manufacturer's defect, please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order to arrange for a replacement.
