I love this set so much I bought another, just in case. I use this Reproduced Romanian-Hungarian National Tournament Chess Pieces in Ebonized & Natural with a beautiful folding 2.25 square chess board and the setup gets compliments wherever I take it to play.\nOf course aesthetics are personal and subjective, but for playing chess away from home everything about it just works. I paired it with a vintage MOM Hungarian chess clock just for fun.\nI own 10 different Chess Bazaar sets and this one gets the most playing time.

Once I started playing with this set, it quickly became one of my favorites. Unique and more attractive on the board than I had anticipated from the pics. Love playing with it! I like the style and everything was well carved and flawless. I can't comment on how accurate a reproduction it is compared to the original, but I really like the design as it stands on its own.

Another great set that is very fun to play with. The crimson version of this set is which I purchased just as nice and makes for a great contrast as does this ebonized version. I love how the rook almost has a head part with a crown. Also the fact that close to the base the pieces have this edge instead of being rounded makes this set stand out. The cartoonish knights almost look like wolfs. This is just a wonderful set and I would by it again in crimson if available. Thank you.

Nice light pieces with good hand-feel for playing. However the knights I received do NOT match the ones in the photographs on the site - they are not as carefully carved, and do not follow the pattern of the real Romanian chess set as closely. They are only a rough approximation of the originals. I blame the carvers for cutting corners on their work, and carelessness. The collar of the King is noticeably lower than the collar of the queen, but it should be exactly the same height. This is a major flaw that spoils the architectural effect of the set on the board and it is hard to understand how such an oversight has been allowed in what otherwise appears to be a carefully reproduced set. This is a serious departure from the design of the original Romanian sets. Disappointing. These issues could SO easily have been avoided with slightly more careful review at the design approval stage, and the carvers deserve a black mark for their lazy work on the knights.

I now own all 4 versions of the tournament chess set. I bought the ebonized version to round out the collection I have amassed of this particular Romanian-Hungarian set. Two of the versions are of natural woods and two are of stained or ebonized versions. I have taken a step further in ensuring that I would keep the beautiful color of the crimson and ebonized stained versions by ""sealing"" them with a durable high gloss lacquer spray finish. I have seen chess sets lose their color luster over the years from constant handling of the pieces through casual and tournament play, especially chess sets that are stained and or ebonized. The set really impressed me and plays so well I just needed to have all four ""flavors"" for my collection. One of the best selling points of this set is that there aren't any delicate areas in any of the pieces that would be prone to breakage making it a very durable set for tournament style play. I just might purchase one more sheesham set with the wider King and Queen base diameters and ""gift"" the smaller sheesham version to a family member. I like this set that much. Good job on the reproduction of this set Chess bazaar craftsmen.

Kudos to Vik and Sapna for making a PERFECT reproduction of the Romanian-Hungarian Tournament set at my request . And now at my suggestion they have made it even better with WIDER base Kings and Queens. A wonderful collectible and playing set. Knight carvings are gorgeous. A ""must have"" set for serious collectors. You will not be disappointed.

Kudos to Vik and the ChessBazaar team for this magnificent Romanian-Hungarian Tournament Set reproduction. An appealing and unique design set for collectors and tournament players alike. Also for those looking for an appealing alternative to the Staunton design. Its an exact reproduction of the original sets used in Romanian and Hungarian National tournaments, These unique pieces are gorgeous in every way. Awesome hand carved knights with uniquely styled Bishops with opposite color finials. . Refreshing designed Kings and Queens. The Rooks and Pawns are quite pleasing. A ""must have"" set for collectors and tournament players. I highly recommend this charming set. This set is a perfect reproduction of the original sets. Many thanks to Vik and Sapna for making this gorgeous reproduction at my request. Even though this is a perfect reproduction, I would like to see ChessBazaar make it even better with wider diameter bases for the Kings and Queens and make the pieces with heavier weights.
