Features: This tournament-sized chess set "The 1950's Bohemia Staunton Series" in Staunton pattern has been specifically designed for tournament/serious players. This is an impeccable reproduction featuring the magnificently robust and so-called "dragon" Knights.

Weight: 900 grams approx. (31.74 oz). Please note that the weight in the set is added manually, so the final weight of the set can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%.

Dark chess pieces are made of Bud Rosewood, while the opposing pieces are made of boxwood (also available in Sheesham variant), which is traditionally used for the white side. Boxwood is easy to work with and showcases aesthetic detail beautifully. The set includes free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion.

Craftsmanship: The lathe work on each chess piece is noteworthy, especially the unique collar rings and Dubrovnik Chess Set-like bishops. All chess pieces have a wide base, adding another interesting dimension to the set. The carving and craftsmanship around the mane of the knight are quite spectacular, and the knight's design is somewhat similar to our Reproduced Romanian-Hungarian National Tournament Chess Set. The design of the other pieces is also highly outstanding, allowing the set to truly stand out. Pieces are meticulously handcrafted from the finest grade wood and polished by hand to give them a rich and long-lasting shine.

History: This chess set is reproduced in collaboration with "Michael Ladzinski", one of the greatest chess collectors in the chess world.The original chess sets made by Bohemia are very rare and sell for thousands of dollars, which not every chess collector can afford.

Uniformity of Pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles, ensuring all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. Some variation may occur in hand-carved pieces like the knights.

Best Choice

Though it is a matter of taste, this has become my favorite wood/color combination for this set. The padauk is quite beautiful, the most attractive wood in my opinion. After using this set for a few days, I am quite happy with it - it seems a bit more heavily weighted than other previous wood combinations of this set I had received, which I quite like. Highly recommended. Quality would be a 5 except for one boxwood rook that seemed a bit lighter than the other, though it actually turned out to be about the same weight as the boxwood rooks in my other Bohemian sets, so there was no point in swapping.

Unique Set

I just received this set in Bud Rosewood, after having previously gotten it in other wood combinations. Quality was generally very good. The only defects were a small chip at the bottom of a knight's head where it was joined to the base, and a weighting disparity in one piece. After using the set, it quickly became apparent that one of the boxwood rooks was much heavier than the other. The pieces were well weighted in general, with a heavy, solid feel, except for that one rook that felt quite light in comparison to the other. Carving quality was excellent. The knights are very unique - to me they appear to be a cross between a lion and a dragon. One of my favorite sets, particularly in this Bud Rosewood or the Crimson and White versions.

Another stunning set

My fifth purchase from ChessBazaar, and another stunning set for the collection. The crimson lacquer is gorgeous, and the pieces are just amazing to look at and handle - especially the ""dragon"" knights which are wonderfully unique. Fantastic work as always, and once again I'm a very happy customer, especially as I managed to pick these up in the half price sale!

Absolutely Stunning Set , Magnificent ""Dragon Knights""

ChessBazar first offered this amazing set in Sheesham which I absolutely love. So I decided to go""all in"" and purchase their Crimson lacquered version along with their Ebonized version. The crimson lacquered pieces a sight to behold and make a striking board presence. Its an amazing reproduction of the vintage 1950's Bohemia West German set. Many thanks to Vik and Gurpreet for making this reproduction at my request..This set has everything a collector and tournament player would want in a set. ChessBazaar's reproduction is even better than the original. For one its a larger set with 3.89"" Kings compared to the original's 3.75"" size. This makes for a much better playing set for tournament, speed or blitz play. .Secondly, like the originals, the pieces are gorgeous , but because of their larger size makes them an even more pleasing visual experience and board presence. And those ""dragon "" Knights are so so beautiful! As a collector and player I couldn't be more happy with this Bohemia set reproduction. ChessBazaar you have made my day, thank you! How are items packaged?

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.

Seller Error: If we made a mistake, such as sending the wrong or incomplete item, please let us know right away and we will gladly send the correct item in exchange whenever possible at no additional cost to you.(Wrong or incomplete items claim must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.)
Defective items: If you receive an item with a manufacturer's defect, please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order to arrange for a replacement.
