British Elegance!

This is a quality reproduction that is a quite impressive set. I like the distinct styling which often differs from Jacques sets, their main competitor of the time. The knights are unique and I especially like the unique styling of the bishops that look quite solid and thicker at the top mitre portion. The mitre slash doesn't cut into the ball finial at the top, as is common with many popular bishop styles with more slender bishops. It is all a matter of personal taste. All pieces were skillfully carved, with flat bottoms, and perfect. It was flawless and beautiful. This set is highly recommended for those to whom the style is appealing.

if weighting was better it would rate 5/5/4

Weighting was way too far off for my liking as you can feel the difference between a pawn that weighs 28 grams and another that weighs 38 grams. I will give the weights in case anyone is curious, as they came out of the box. \n\nWhite P...28-30-30-30-32-28-32-34 R..56-48 Q..64-72 K..78 N..54-52 B..56-54 Total weight 782 grams\nBlack P..32-36-36-32-34-34-38-38 R..64-60 Q..78-76 K..84 N..66-64 B..54-56 Total weight 888 grams\n\nIf it were not for the weighting I could over look the couple dings and the white scratches in the collar of the white K and the not too great job of trimming the felt on the black pawns. These to me are minor is a set for this price, remember it is genuine ebony and one can not even buy the wood for this price. If the weighting was better I would have rated it 5/5/4 respectively.\nThe pawn differential in weight from 28 to 38 grams is a lot 10/28 is a 36% change in weight for one pawn, yes you can feel the difference.\nOn the plus side the pawns double collar is the money shot of the set for me. That's primarily why I bought the set. They do look classy.\nFinal-is ebony important to me, not at all, in fact I rather have am ebonized set because over the years they are less likely to crack and at least 1/3 to 1/2 less in price. I am more interested in a playable set. \nWhy he value of only a 3, well without at least a little more consistency for the weighting, especially of the pawns, I feel like not playing with the set, not happy as you can tell.

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.

Seller Error: If we made a mistake, such as sending the wrong or incomplete item, please let us know right away and we will gladly send the correct item in exchange whenever possible at no additional cost to you.(Wrong or incomplete items claim must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.)
