Features: This tournament sized chess set "The CB Grandmaster Series" in Staunton pattern has been specifically designed for chess tournament/club players. The set features a Tournament standard 3.75" King with a base diameter of 1.61 inches. The CB Grandmaster Series is expertly weighted from our master artisans and it's superb size proportioning from a king to pawn make this chess set an excellent choice for fast chess games in tournaments/clubs or regular home and school play.

Pieces Weight: 1120 grams approx. (39.50 oz). Please note that the weight in the set is added manually so the final weight of the set can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%.

Dark chess pieces are made up of sheesham wood and the opposing pieces are made up of natural boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. The set comes with free extra queens for effortless pawn promotion. All chess pieces are expertly carved and appropriately weighted for fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board.

Craftsmanship: Pieces are meticulously handcrafted from the finest grade wood and polished by hand to give it a rich and long lasting shine. The design, quality, and craftsmanship of these chess pieces is impeccable.

Uniformity of pieces: The shapes of turned pieces are guided by metal profiles and so all turned pieces are identical, especially the pawns. You can expect some variation where hand carving or cutting comes i.e. knights.

WOW! Genuinely ecstatic about its quality

Shipping was super quick, received it in the US 4 days after I ordered it. It arrived in a plastic box, with each individual piece wrapped. I knew I had a high quality product as soon as I opened the first pawn. This is very well weighted, so it feels heavy and substantial. The knights are gorgeous. They look battle-ready, which was one primary reason I chose this set over others with lamer looking knights. The wood grains on both the boxwood and sheesham are great. I didn't see any pores in the sheeham like the other reviewer mentioned. It did feel a bit rough on top of the rooks because it wasn't polished like the rest of the surface but just don't stick your hand in there and you won't even notice it! \n\nI have only one suggestion, if chessbazaar admin is reading: You recommend a 2 inch square size for these pieces. However, the king and queen bases are pretty substantial. They fit 2 in squares just fine, but I think the ideal square size for this set should be 2.25"". I had already purchased the board before this set was delivered. I'm happy with it but would have been even happier with a 2.25. \n\nSummary: This was on sale and I got it for a great price, and it is incredible value for money given the high quality. Had I known how great this set was and if it were not on sale, I wouldn't have minded paying full price for it ($120).\n\n

Great playing set

Please, see the pictures. You can see that those bases are straight and not in bezel shape. Well, in my opinion that gives this set great stability and attitude. Knights are perfectly carved for the size and I don't know if every set will be as mine but my boxwood pieces are stunning: not so white, and with stunning wood grain.\n\nThe only negative point: Mine is Sheesham and I don't know if this is with this particular set I bought, but it has lots of pores. It can be seen particularly in rooks tops but even in polished zones those pores are ubiquitous and can be felt with touch.\n\nIn summary *highly* recommended set! The best for the price!

How are items packaged?

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.

Seller Error: If we made a mistake, such as sending the wrong or incomplete item, please let us know right away and we will gladly send the correct item in exchange whenever possible at no additional cost to you.(Wrong or incomplete items claim must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.)
