It is unfortunate that my set came with a tilted head on the knight…but is is even more unfortunate that ChessBazzar thinks this is ok for such a iconic design of theirs. I send a pic and explained it to customer support as well as the CEO, and my reply was that this is normal for hand carved pieces have flawsI asked to just swap out the single knight but was told this wasn’t an option. So this is my last order with ChessBazaar..(and I really hate when a favorite store of mine falls in this category)…but I tried to resolve it the proper and professional way 1st, and now have to resort to this. Also this is my 2nd review that I posted..(they won’t include my review with the rest of them)…and I hope this one gets posted.

Let me start off by saying how disappointed I am over this transaction. To start with, my order stayed in the processing stage for almost two weeks & 3 emails before it finally got processed. Also, it unfortunately arrived with a knight that has a tilted head. I would of hope and expected someone to inspect all orders before going out, but it doesn’t look like that is the case in my situation. \nI absolutely love the set (one of their flag designs) but can’t imagine having a tilted head for a piece in such a set. I have enclosed pictures to show of my findings. My 1849 set was perfect and I just love the set! …lets see what happens!

The name of this set says it all. It is a classic Staunton form but with all luxury pieces.\nThe knights are stunningly beautiful with intricate carvings. All pieces have a great size and weight and the king just feels majestic. I love that the pawns heads are perfectly round in this set. the set fits perfectly on a 60mm field board and it looks stunning on a blue colored maple board. It gives it an awesome contrast to the ebony pieces. Thank you for producing such a beautiful set.

I bought this set and the Bud Rosewood set. I had initially been shopping for an Ebony and Bud Rosewood set but then came upon the Red Rum set and decided to buy both as it gives me essentially 3 sets to play (I can switch the Boxwood pieces for either the Ebony and the Bud Rosewood pieces). The sets arrived in excellent packaging with no broken pieces or scratches. I've had them for probably around a year now and have had a few pieces crack but Chess Bazaar has provided replacement pieces. I had initially bought these pieces (I should probably have thought it out a bit more) to play on a 2 1/4"" squared board however found that the bases were too large. As a result, I had to buy a board with 2 1/2"" squares. The pieces fit extremely well on 2 1/2"" squares and it just makes it a pleasure to play a game.\n\nI also ordered the two chess coffers (S1210 for the Ebony pieces) and the S1210-B for the Bud Rosewood pieces with individual slots to fit these pieces in as you really do need to have a decent place to store these pieces. I can't say enough about how Mayank, the service rep for Chess Bazaar, has assisted me in getting the chess sets and replacement pieces. I ended buying another Bud Rosewood set (SKU: S1280) with a 3 3/4"" King for my 2 1/4"" squared board and another Bud Rosewood set (SKU: VJ010) with a 3.4"" King for my 2"" squared chess board.\n\nOne final recommendation - don't forget to get your Bud Rosewood pieces lacquered. If there's one flaw here is that to get the extra lacquering (which is a ""must"" for any Bud Rosewood pieces), is the extra cost for lacquering. If Bud Rosewood pieces aren't lacquered, the pieces will emit a white powdery residue. Having said that, I ordered mine lacquered but some pieces are still emitting the residue and Chess Bazaar won't provide replacement pieces. As a result of getting the Bud Rosewood pieces lacquered, I decided to also get my Ebony and Boxwood pieces lacquered. I had initially ordered a non-lacquered Ebony Red Rum set, sold it, and ordered a lacquered set as I find the lacquer does make the pieces ""just the right tone"" to play with.

I have been looking to purchase a high end chess set and upon seeing the red rum design I instantly loved it.\nIt arrived in the UK in a very well packaged parcel which arrived quickly and upon opening it I found the set to be everything I could hope for and more.\nThe pieces are well weighted and look beautiful.\nChess Bazaar have exceeded my expectations and I will be purchasing more items from this company in the future.

Liked the Red Rum sets so much I bought 2 Ebony and Rosewood both beautiful. Get the lacquered Rosewood if you get a Rosewood set because for some reason they get this white powder that forms on some pieces, sealing them from atmosphere stops this oxidation and they are that much more beautiful.

This set is especially beautiful in person. The knights are gorgeous. All the pieces are nicely weighted. This is my 5th set from Chess Bazaar, and am waiting for 4 more to arrive. So far all the sets are beautifully crafted and well made.\n

This set is high, high quality, exactly as it looks in pictures. The weight of each piece is nice and heavy. The artwork beautiful, especially the knights. This set makes me want to come play with it! It has renewed my love for chess! It's the best chess set I've ever owned or played on, bar none - and I've owned dozens of sets!

Arrived very quickly to the UK.\nOn inspection, the finials on both kings had what looked like glue on them. I sorted this out myself but it took time.\nThen I noticed one knight (white) was darker than the other white pieces and one rook was very grainy in appearance, much more so than the other. \nPhotos were sent as requested and the verdict was that they could not replace any under guarantee as they were deemed acceptable.\nI explained these faults were spoiling an otherwise fine set and replied could they replace the rook only, and was told,"" as a valued customer they would replace the rook""(hooray! I thought ) ""when I next purchased some more items"" !!\nThese exchanges were all very polite and gentile, but I felt the pieces should have been replaced sooner with no questions rather than holding the rook to ransom.\nI did receive a replacement which was acceptable.

I have my eye on 2 sets here and now i have one of them! my CB Red Rum Ebony set looks just a great in person as the pictures do. If you purchase the additional leather carrying case is top notch as well. You can't touch this kind of quality anywhere else for these prices (and keep an eye out for special pricing)!

I had been waiting for the perfect set to purchase. It had to have several specific details; the Rook had to be slender and tall, with very nicely defined crennels. This one has that. The knight is really detailed and I just love the design of it... the whole set is luxurious and maginificent. Excellent quality! You won`t regret purchasing this set.
