The Parker Staunton Series in Staunton style is made up of burnt boxwood and natural boxwood. The King proudly stands at 3.9 inches and its base is a robust 1.6 inches. Wider base and superb size proportioning from the king to the pawn exhibits true intricate craftsmanship in all the pieces. To create the dark side of this set, pieces are actually burned followed by the final carving and design work. These techniques create a beautiful contrast between the blackened areas and the natural boxwood color underneath.

The opposing pieces are made of natural boxwood which is traditionally used for white side. It is one of the fairly easy woods to work with and shows off aesthetic detail. All chess pieces have billiard board green felt pads on their bases which give you the smooth movement on the chess board.

Design & Quality:

Appropriately weighted these pieces are very stable on board and a pleasure to touch and feel. Each piece is meticulously carved by hand to give it a rich and long-lasting shine. Excellent and beautiful set

This reasonably priced and beautiful set comes from India, which explains why shipping took a bit longer. When I opened the box, I could smell the lacquer from the factory. It is suitable for tournament play too. It was a wonderful holiday present!

Unique pieces ... Exotic look!

If you want Staunton styled chess pieces, but are bored with the same usual look of the pieces, this may be the set for you. These pieces are Staunton-styled, but with a somewhat different, fancier and more interesting and exotic look than the usual, plain, single colored sides, and have unique etching. The knights and bishops especially have a nice look to them. Only some very minor flaws and imperfections in the finish kept this set from absolute perfection. This is a handmade item, so some such minor variations in uniformity might be expected. I did not note any serious flaws and it is a beautiful set for the quite reasonable price.

May be better

I bought a similar set from Royalchessmall on ebay for half the price. The quality is also good but I think the bishops are slightly different. Sidharth Kapoor says bishops are the same but I am not sure.
