The King of the Smokey Staunton Series proudly stands at 3.8 inches and its base is robust 1.6 inches. Each piece has been hand carved and sanded before being hand-painted by our skilled artisans with auto-grade paints which have a long life and are very durable. The chess set comes with 34 pieces including 2 extra queens. All the pieces are weighted by adding an iron stud in the base and have a leather felt on their bases. The weighted chess pieces are a pleasure to touch and feel.

a very pleasant chessmen set

A very pleasant set, perfectly executed and finished. The colour is very attractive\nto see and play as well. The dimensions - king 3.8 "" - are very well adapted for a tournament board or \nalso for a smaller board (15.7 "" square board).\nI recommand this set, not a luxus one but classical high range.

Attractive Pieces

This chess set is much more appealing and attractive than the display pictures show. At least on my phone screen, the red pieces looked washed out, not even looking red, and the true color did not show. Do not fear, once received you will see that it has true colors that are vibrant. They really are hand-painted and not sprayed. I could tell because one of the small points on the coronet of a Black queen was overlooked and left unpainted. It was a small but noticeable flaw. This piece was promptly replaced. Other than that one tiny flaw, the set was perfect. Actually, I later touched up the small unpainted area on top of the queen with a Black felt-tip marker and I'm quite sure no one would ever notice. But this is proof that Chess Bazaar stands behind their quality and you can trust them. Anything handmade is subject to occasional flaws and imperfections, but I have found Chess Bazaar's quality to be continually advancing towards perfection over the months and years. This is a great set for anyone. Highly recommended as a gift for children, beginners, or amateurs due to the more interesting colors. Also recommended for more advanced players like myself who simply tire from time to time of playing with the more common and usual black or brown colors for the dark pieces and plain unpainted boxwood for the light pieces. I have found pleasure in playing with red and white pieces for a change of pace and a unique experience. These Black and Red pieces are just as unique and fun to play with. It is definitely a mood enhancer to play with these pieces for a time. Some wealthy celebrities collect cars to have a different one for every day or every week. That requires a lot of means both to purchase and store. The good news for chess players is that it's much easier to do similarly with chess sets. And that is something I spend many more hours with than I do driving a car. If you are not that into chess, this set is still a great choice to have, even as your only set.

How are items packaged?

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.

Seller Error: If we made a mistake, such as sending the wrong or incomplete item, please let us know right away and we will gladly send the correct item in exchange whenever possible at no additional cost to you.(Wrong or incomplete items claim must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.)
Defective items: If you receive an item with a manufacturer's defect, please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order to arrange for a replacement.
Shipping Damage: If your purchase arrived damaged, please contact us as soon as possible to initiate a parcel damage claim. To expedite your claim, please email sales@chessbazaar.com with photographs of the package and damaged contents.
Plastic Box Damage: We offer plastic box complementary with some of the chess pieces so we won't be able to send you the replacement for the plastic box if it breaks in transit.
Refused or Undeliverable Packages: Packages returned because of purchaser error or refused delivery are subject to a restocking fee of up to 60% of the purchase price to recover the cost of processing, shipping, and then re-stocking and re-processing the order.
Pre-orders and backorders can be cancelled any time up until the item is in stock and your order has been processed.
