One of our best sellers, this beautiful Desert Gold Staunton pattern chess set is made up of ebonized boxwood on the darker side and natural boxwood on the lighter side. The sale is for the complete set of 34 pieces (2 Extra Queens).

All chess pieces are expertly carved and weighted for a fantastic hand-feel and a very nice thud on the wooden chess board. Chess pieces have thick green felts which precisely envelops the base of each chess men for smooth movement on the chessboard. Chess pieces are meticulously handcrafted from the finest grade wood and polished by hand to give it a rich and long-lasting shine. Chess Board is NOT INCLUDED in this sale. You can choose a number of designs of chess boards from our website.

Excellent Playing and Beautiful Set!

Bought this set a couple months ago. I always wanted a set that wood and upgrade over a tournament set, but didn't want to spend 400 dollars to get it.
This set delivers! Beautiful, heavy and feel good in the hands. Detail is excellent on every piece.

Great set

I purchased this set on a 50% off sale. Received it today. Very impressed! I inspected every piece closely and found only two Minor, minor, minor spots that could be described as ""flaws."" First was a spot on one of the white pawns about 5mm round that was simply an internal wood grain spot, not really a flaw because wood has grain and color differences within it, one of the reasons wood is so beautiful.. Now a 5mm diameter natural wood spot is very normal in wood. In fact that there was only one in the whole white pieces set is nothing short of miraculous. I should note that I am a high-end furniture maker a quite use to looking at wood and for ""flaws"" in wood (thus my very close examination). The second flaw was a tiny, again about 5mm or less flaw in the finish of one of the black pieces on one of the bottom rings. Again very, very ,very tiny. Neither spot is franky really noticeable except on the most thorough, picky exam. I am astonished at the consistency and quality evident in the entire set. Oh, and I need to mention the knights! Hansomely carved, and all four so nearly identicle as to be astonishing, although I know they're hand carved. I've tried my hand at carving and coudn't carve a spoon, let alone four (and indeed no doubt hundreds) identical carvings so small and beautiful. So, I gave this long and wordy review to say ""bravo"" to the makers and sellers of this set. Get it on sale and you have a heirloom set at a bargin price, for the quality and beauty, that, with care, will last generations.

Economy Pieces, Exceptional Craftsmanship.

This is my sixth purchase from ChessBazaar which speaks for itself. Given that these chess pieces are categorized as “Economy Pieces” the craftsmanship is of a very high standard and consistent throughout each aspect. The pieces were individually and securely wrapped and delivered within days of ordering. ChessBazaar has not disappointed in any way with this or my previous purchases. Hopefully this will remain the case when I receive my (back order) four inch King reproduction 1950 Dubrovnik chess pieces, in due course. I’ll be sure to let you know.

Good set when on special

I managed to get this set when there was a good discount, and overall I'm pleased with it. The pieces have a good weight and I really like the proportions of the rooks.\nThese pieces do not have felt on the base. Instead they have black leather.\nOne Bishop has some scratches on it and I have just emailed customer service for a replacement, so we'll see how that goes.\nThe white pieces look great, however the black ebonised pieces are not completely uniform in polish. Some are shinier than others. In normal lighting conditions you won't notice, and if you do you aren't concentrating on your game enough! Anyway, that's one star off. Otherwise, it's a great set.

Great - Excellent Customer Service

These pieces are great! Heavy, and well made. One of the kings was a tiny but smaller than the other (which is to be expected in hand-made pieces) and Chess Bazaar is sending me a replacement with no questions or fee. I'll be back for my next set!

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.
