I purchased the Russian Zagreb Staunton chess pieces from Chess Bazaar - received them in eight days from India! The pieces were individually wrapped and had no damage. Upon opening them I was stunned with the outstanding quality of these chess pieces. I am a wood-worker and have been creating things from wood most of my life, including custom made chess boards. I bought a wood lathe and attempted to make chess pieces - the result? Total failure. Making chess pieces is an art that requires special tools and know-how. So when I saw the chess pieces I was in awe - they are a work of art and are truly beautiful. I now finally have a professionally made set of chess pieces that will be handed down to my son as an heirloom. My compliments to Chess Bazaar for a fantastic set of chess pieces at a very reasonable price!

A stunningly beautiful chess set for the price (having gotten it on sale). Skillfully carved with no noticeable defects even after close examination. I had previously gotten this same set in the black lacquered (ebonized) and boxwood version, but I much prefer this version in the sheesham and boxwood (for the same bargain price). The finish looks much more elegant to me and shows off the fine grains of the wood. It was excellently carved with no noticeable flaws.

I was surprised by the speed of the shipping of this item. In a couple of days from India to my door.\nOpening the parcel I was pleasantly surprised for a second time. A perfect set of chess pieces, just as described on the website. No visible deviations at all, and that while it was a clearance set.\nI can recommend this, very playable, chess set. It's large, sturdy and slightly different from the 'standard' chess sets. The knights are real attention seekers. Couple it with a board in light colours with at least size 55 mm fields. 58 mm is the optimum, I think.

I bought these from the Clearance Sale, and they arrived this morning. As usual, super-safe (each piece was wrapped individually) & fast shipping. Even on this inexpensive set, the workmanship is very good indeed, almost perfect. Be aware that the black pieces are made from Sheesham (Indian Golden Rosewood), which means they do vary in color/brightness quite a bit. On the upside, Sheesham is a very vibrantly structured wood, and people like me who enjoy looking at the grain and shading of wood will find much pleasure in these pieces. Decently weighted, not very heavy (black: KIng - 57g, Queen - 57g, Knight - 40g, white pieces about the same) but stand firmly on the board. This is a nicely stylized, clearly defined variant on the Staunton set - minus the religious symbols for the bishops, of course. The contrasting cross and balls on the kings, queens, and bishops add color. Very pleased with the value of this set, they make solid club/tournament pieces. Once again, Chessbazaar hit the ball right out of the park!

Absolutely gorgeous chess pieces. I do not give them five stars because the base of a few of the pieces are not evenly filled therefore they do not stand up completely straight and they wobble a bit. \nReally beautiful though, and nicely crafted.\nThey were reduced a lot when I bought them, so a very good price.

I got this set for a fantastic price, I think if I wanted to buy just the raw wood it was made of - it would have cost more.\n\nI'm a fan of Dubrovnik style chess sets, i.e. those that have opposite colored finials on bishops only. At the time I bought this Zagreb set the photos on website showed that to be the case, but apparently that was an error and I received the set with opposite colored finials on queens and kings also, as it was meant to be.\n\nBut the customer service was great and they sent me additional 4 queens and 2 kings without the opposite colored finials. I do not know if they had to go through the trouble to actually make those specially for me or not, but I appreciate it very much.\nSo, now I have unique Zagreb chess set :) with opposite colored finials on bishops only and I think it is much nicer and less pompous that way. Anyway, this set was a gift for a friend, and I don't have it any more, but if they would make one more like this I would buy it right now.\n\nBesides that, the quality of craftsmanship is outstanding.\n\nI purchased the set on Monday evening, and it was delivered to me on Wednesday morning (FL, USA)! I don't get my local Amazon purchases that fast :) \n\nIn the meantime, I purchased one more chess set, and will get one more as soon as it gets available again.\n\nThank you chessbazaar!\n\n\n\n

Buy it!\nAlthough I paid about a quarter of the price for this than my ""fanciest set"" it is firmly my ""go to"" chess set. Quality in terms of ashtetics, chunky weighting and pleasurable tactile handling is a winner. \nI take them to use in chess matches and club nights. Win, lose or draw this set lifts the spirits.

The reason there is no reviews on here is because they are all bad, you guys couldn't let the truth get out what horrible customer service you really have

Very poor quality, when I emailed them about a problem they showed me the certificate showing the great quality of the item, signed by Vik, someone needs an eye exam over there.
