Great Product

Very solid heavy board. Looks nice with 4 inch pieces. My board had a couple of blemishes and sanding lines that weren’t buffed out. Overall nice quality for the price.

This is a perfect board for use with larger Club sized pieces or for those who prefer a bit more space for their standard tournament sized pieces, especially those pieces with larger bases. It was received well packed in flawless condition. It is quality made and looks beautiful either with matching ebony pieces or is also an eye catcher with sheesham or rosewood for the dark pieces, which will match the frame and provide greater contrast on the dark squares.

When I play Chess, I like a lot of CONTRAST between my chessmen and my board. I find lighter sets look best on a darker board, darker pieces, to me, look best on a lighter board. Contrast helps me not lose sight of the pieces, so I don't forget about that pesky Bishop over in the corner and make a stupid move. This beautiful board (almost too pretty to play on) is perfect for my lighter chessmen (Acacia, Golden Rosewood, you know). Maybe it won't make me a better chess player, but the board is just what I wanted, it is gorgeous, and if nothing else looks great as a conversation piece when set up with my Chessmen from Chess Bazaar.

I bought this chess board set with Red Rum chess pieces on November 20 on CB.de, well packaged and well delivered.\nThe Board and the workmanship appears solid, weighty and very noble at first. It might be a pleasure to play on it\nUnfortunately, bumps and deep cracks have now appeared in the ebony veneer, the paint is torn. \nEnvironmental conditions are living room with a cello and a classical guitar. (room temperature, normal humidity, no sun exposure)\nIt's wood, I know, but something like that comes with the ravages of time, not after four weeks. But so sensitive it can not be\n\nApparently I got a very poor quality here compared to the other buyers. Maybe just an outlier. The board would certainly have deserved 5 stars, but not mine.\nThe service leaves something to be desired atm, negotiations in progress\n\nThe aesthetics of the board are gone. I am very disappointed. \nI can therefore not necessarily recommend it.

Good polish / shine and feels heavy too.\nReceived in 4 days (dispatched on Thursday evening, received in Switzerland on Monday afternoon).\nRight now, I have placed by 4 inch King (plastic Hastings set) on the board, as I am waiting for my 1849 Staunton pieces to be delivered - as this is still on backorder at Chessbazaar. \nRecommended!!

The board is excellent, but mine arrived damaged. I told Chess Bazaar that I may be able fix it myself if they sent me a small bottle of liquid lacquer they used. They told me to use a spray can lacquer purchased from a hardware store. I said I didn't feel comfortable doing the repair in that case. They told me to fix it myself. I tried but wasn't happy with the results. There is an art to getting a super smooth finish with a spray can; obviously, I'm not there yet. This is the only time I've had less than superb service from Chess Bazaar. I'm a bit disappointed.

I was really impressed with this board - I love the design, and it's very high quality.\n\nI should say that the dark squares of the board that I received aren't black like in the photographs, because they're made out of a type of ebony wood that consists of a dark brown grain against a reddish-brown background. This was fine with me because I find the grain attractive, but some may prefer the completely black type of ebony for the squares.\n\nAlso, it was well-packaged, and delivered to the UK, from India, in three days from dispatch!!

I bought this board for my partner to compliment the pieces I bought for him...they compliment each other perfectly. The finish is so smooth and the pieces glide over the board beautifully

This board, paired with sheesham dark pieces is luscious. So satisfying. The lacquer even smells like scotch, board is rich.

A lovely chessboard and a juwel in every (chess)room.\nThe chessboard is (not too!) heavy. It's surface had been lacquered with great care and feels smooth. \nI live in the Netherlands. I ordered this board to go with the Antique Circa 1870-1900 Staunton Series Chess Pieces in Ebony & Stained Antiqued Box Wood - 4.2"" Kin. It arrive undamaged in very quick time. To my eye the board looks and feels beautiful and is well made.
