Features: This tournament-sized chess set, "The 1950's Bohemia Staunton Series," is designed for serious players, featuring a 3.89" King with a 1.45" base. Expertly weighted for tournament, club, or home play, it boasts superb proportions and iconic "dragon" Knights.

Weight: 900 grams approx. (31.74 oz). Please note that the weight in the set is added manually so the final weight of the set can vary by plus or minus (±) 10%.

Material: Dark pieces are Stained Crimson Boxwood, and the opposing pieces are Boxwood (also available in Sheesham). Comes with extra queens, green felt bases, and exquisite knight carving.

Craftsmanship: Unique collar rings, wide bases, and fine carving, inspired by the Dubrovnik Chess Set. The knight's mane and design resemble the Romanian-Hungarian National Tournament Chess Set. Handcrafted and polished for lasting shine.

History: Reproduced in collaboration with "Michael Ladzinski." The 1950s Bohemia German set was popular for its "dragon" Knights. A later version with "chicken head" Knights was used at the 1970 Siegen Olympiad, played by Bobby Fischer against Boris Spassky.

Uniformity: Turned pieces are identical, while knights may have slight variations due to hand-carving.

Red Stained Bohemia Set

This set is remarkable! The price is right, when it's on sale. The crimson color is a delight. Children and adults alike find it fun and fascinating. This was my second set from CHESSBAZZAR. A well made chess set.

1950 Bohemia Staunton Crimson Boxwood

The crimson stain makes the 2 armies equal in strength. The chicken head Knights are a stand out from other Staunton patterns. This is a good looking set.

Beatiful red stained set

I love this set and it looks especially great in red. The dragon knights are amazing and the bishops are very elegant. Very solid for play as well since noe of the pieces are too fragile.

Beautiful exotic set

This is a set I went a bit overboard on. I also have it in the ebonized and sheesham versions, but couldn't resist this special crimson version also. It is my favorite of all. The crimson color seems to make it even more exotic, unique, and beautiful. It was perfectly carved and flawless. One nice thing about the size is that it works perfectly on the 2.0"" squares (or 50mm) that are common on older chess tables, as well as on the standard sized tournament boards with 55mm (or 2.2"" to 2.25"") squares.

Excellent Reproduction of a Bohemia Set, Flawless Glossy Varnish

I was so pleased with my Romanian-Hungarian set in glossy lacquered boxwood that I went for this inexpensive 1950s German set, famous for its so-called ""Dragon Knights"" - though they definitely look more like dogs to me. This set is just as delightful, there's definitely a ""toy vibe"" going on with it. There are no ""noses"" on the transparent varnish at all, it's been very well applied. These pieces are only modestly weighted (the originals often weren't weighted at all). Weights are: King= 47g; Queen= 41g; Bishop= 30g; Knight= 38g; Rook= 34g; Pawn= 20g. So, just about 1kg altogether. As usual, shipment was fast and very secure, every single piece was wrapped individually. A very nice, cost-conscious addition to my growing collection of reproduced classic sets.

How are items packaged?

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.

Seller Error: If we made a mistake, such as sending the wrong or incomplete item, please let us know right away and we will gladly send the correct item in exchange whenever possible at no additional cost to you.(Wrong or incomplete items claim must be made within 48 hours of delivery of the item.)
Defective items: If you receive an item with a manufacturer's defect, please contact us within 48 hours of receiving your order to arrange for a replacement.
