The Latvian chess set in the red finish is simply gorgeous and exquisitely striking, therefore each piece is carved with meticulous care. Our most magnificent replica yet takes nearly a week to be made. Quality and workmanship are so good that you will forget that it's a reproduction.

Reproduced Old Soviet Latvian Series weighted chess pieces offers a 4.1" King with a base diameter of 1.69". The set comes with 34 pieces including 2 extra queens. The chess pieces are weighted and have thick green felt on their bases for smooth movement on the chess board. Dark pieces are hand carved in stained crimson boxwood and the lighter pieces in boxwood.

The lathe work on the each chess piece is noteworthy, especially the unique collar rings and graceful curves. Knights have a divergent style of carving on each side making even more captivating pieces from different angle views. There are 4 cuts in the turrets of the rook. This chess set was designed without any religious symbols, without the king crown or bishop mitre cut.

Really nice set. The images shown on website are spot on as far as the product I received. Excellent finish on the pieces and love the matte crimson red and natural on the lighter pieces. Would of been happy with purchasing at regular so getting them on reduced clearance price made it a great offer I couldn't pass on. Stylish Version of a Popular Soviet Chess Set - All the better in glossy finish!

Lovely set at an unbeatable price (purchased through Etsy). The glossy finish really makes these streamlined pieces shine! Modestly weighted at 1.1kg, but that's actually better for speed chess. One pawn had a rough finish, but I don't mind that too much - if you look at the original, vintage sets here on Etsy, they're much more crudely made and of inferior wood. This reproduction is in fact an improvement over the originals. The pieces need a 55mm (2.2"") field size board. Shipment quick and super-safe, as always. My 20th set from Chessbazaar.

Without question, the most impressive and accurate reproduction Soviet set ever made by CB or anyone else. . The set is simply gorgeous.in all respects. I like the fact that this set is larger (4.2"") than the original (3.75""). For one, its more suitable for tournament and blitz play. Unlike the original , its pieces are weighted for better stability. And the hand carved knights are quite imposing. And the crimson stain, unbelievably gorgeous! The crimson stain/boxwood combination make for a wonderful board presence.This version of the Latvian set is an amazing and highly recommended.

All items are carefully packaged in our warehouses - so as to avoid any form of damage. We take great pride in our packaging which ensures the package is water proof with plastic wrap and fragile items are safely secured with bubble wrap.
