I just received from ChessBazaar the Sher‑E‑Punjab in natural boxwood and padauk and it is absolutely beautiful. The wood colors look rich and balanced, and the overall design has real presence on the board. The knights are especially impressive and give the set a distinctive character. The build quality feels solid and carefully done, and it genuinely looks and feels like a luxury product. It’s absolutely stunning and worth every penny—I really do love it.

What can I say about this masterpiece?\nIt speaks on his own.\nI have the Paddok verison , in laquered finishing. The only laquered set I have.\nOn a bird eye blue board stands out majestically. \nLove the "" arabic"" tone shaped pawns, not been rounded.\nA Beauty to me.\nAnother Great pieace of craftsmanship from CB.

This set, is absolutely stunning! The knights are incredible. \n\nThe only minor criticism, (it’s not a deal breaker), the pieces are a little light. It would be better if they were a little heavier. They are not super light by any means, but they could do with a little more heft to really drive home that feeling of quality. \n\nDispatched promptly, arrived in less than 1 week. \n\nThe pieces I received were darker than in the pictures. That’s ok, the red wine colour is rather elegant and refined. This simply means the pieces were carved a little while ago and exposure to UV light has begun to darken them. This natural process is unavoidable. Virtually all woods darken over time when exposed to UV light and handled frequently (because of the oils in our skin).\n\nAlso bud rosewood is known to exude an extremely fine white dust from time to time. A quick wipe is all it takes to remove. The natural oils in the wood are released because the wood is still relatively new and has not been allowed to dry completely previous to turning and carving. It is simply a release of moisture. This phenomenon lasts about a year in most cases. So you will need to give the pieces a quick wipe every so often. It takes all of 2-3 minutes to clean your pieces. You don’t even need to rub. The dust comes off effortlessly. If the pieces are lacquered this won’t happen, because the wood’s surface has been sealed. \n\nAll in all a stunning set. You will not be disappointed. \n\n

As I looked through all the luxury offerings from Chess Bazaar, the Sher-E Punjab pieces instantly caught my eye. They were extremely unique, had an Indian motif embedded in each piece, and a meaningful cultural relevance due to the Maharaja Ranjit Singh being the inspiration for the design. The beautifully carved knight exudes so much life and energy. Look at that mane! The overall feeling of historicity and cultural honor that I see in these beautiful pieces strike me every time I look at this set. I still mutter a quiet, ""Wow."" when I see them. I ran into issues with the lacquer job on some of the pieces but Chess Bazaar came through with replacements. Great job on this set Chess Bazaar!

This is one of the nicest sets I have ever seen. I am very pleased to own it. The overall design and detail is as good as it gets. The knights are the most visually stunning and detailed of any ever made. Every single piece feels good in the hand. I can't afford a thousand dollar set but I feel like I have one with this set. My coworkers love playing with this set also. I have received many compliments on the set. I am very impressed with this purchase.
